Your ELC explains what makes social sports and activities so important for your child’s development.
Social play is when children interact with other children or adults in group activities, for example, playing catch, friendly competitions, or reenacting make-believe scenarios. Social sports and activities offer so many benefits to your child’s development, they truly are a key contributor to your child’s growth.
Some benefits social sports and activities give your child:
- Make and keep friendships
- Ability to work in a team
- Helps to build confidence
- Enhanced conflict resolution skills
- Enhance decision-making skills
- Resist adverse social pressure
- Ability to manage stress and anxiety
- Identify social cues and norms
- Develop stronger emotional awareness for their feelings
Immersing your child from a young age in group settings does a world of good for their confidence and social skills later in life. Some children are more social than others, just like adults, and that is completely normal. But it is about giving your child every opportunity to experience what being and interacting in a group setting is like.
Every child has a unique way of developing their social skills. At Your Local Early Learning Centre, our educators like to take the lead of the child when it comes to social play. We put the power in their hands and don’t push them to do something they aren’t ready for. Simply being in an environment where there are other people around, like at childcare centres, is a huge step for a child to partake in activities with other children’s and educators.
Social sports and activities don’t have to cost money! We understand money can be tight. Simply organising playdates with the child’s family members or friends is a great way for them to interact with others in a safe and supervised environment. This would be an effective way to ease your child into the idea of spending time in bigger groups.
Your Local Early Learning Centre believes in providing your child with everything they need to succeed in life and become their truest self. Come and meet our little community, we are looking forward to seeing you!
