Your ELC shares five great tips for getting your child to eat healthy foods.
Nutrition is one of the most, if not the most important factors for your child’s health and wellbeing. Here are our five tips to encourage picky eaters to eat healthy, yummy food.
- Offer Choices
Children are at their prime of establishing their independence. And just like everyone else, your child in particular will not like being forced to do something. Although it may not seem like much, letting them choose between apple slices and carrot sticks provides them with the autonomy they crave. Your child may feel more excited to eat the healthy dish, knowing that it was their idea.
- Get them in the kitchen with you
Children are more likely to give healthy foods a try if it’s what they have created. Letting your child cook with you is a great way for them to take control of their meal. This can include basic tasks, such as stirring a bowl or measuring ingredients.
- Get creative
The more creative a meal is, the better the chance of them eating it. This can be as simple as making broccoli florets as trees or cutting fruits into flowers (pro tip: we found that mini foods work best!).
- Get saucy
Meals are always more fun when there’s dipping sauce and it can also make dry foods easier for younger children to eat. A dip can give the food you want to introduce a familiar flavour too! You can try sauces, such as yogurt, hummus and many more!
- Children do as you do
Children are hugely impacted by their environment. One of the most significant factors is parental influence. If you choose to eat healthy together, your child is more likely to want to eat healthy too.
