Hello everyone from our Daisy Hill Early Learning Centre!
Daisy Hill ELC would like to respectfully acknowledge the Yugambeh people, the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we live. We also recognise those whose ongoing efforts to protect and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures will leave a lasting legacy for future Elders and leaders.
From The Office
We are so happy to welcome all of our new Daisy Hill ELC additions. We hope that your stay with us is enjoyable and that you and your children have lasting memories for years to come.

- Please be mindful of collection times. We love and even encourage having our parents in the centre, we just ask that you try and park in a spot that is not blocking another parent in. However, I do realise it is a tight car park and is sometimes unavoidable.
- Parent/Teacher communications- We love our parents and our chats. Although our primary responsibility is supervising and engaging with the children in our care. We encourage our families to make enquiries about their child’s day and have a quick chat but if there is a conversation that you know might take more than a few minutes we are happy to arrange a time for you to speak with your child’s teacher without such a limited time.
- Naming belongings- Please ensure that your children’s belongings are labelled.
- Sunscreen is available in the Foyer and in classrooms, please apply sunscreen before you arrive.

Nursery News
We have welcomed so many new Nursery friends this month. We are building strong connections between the families and the staff to assist the children feel welcomed in the environment.
We have also been working on developing autonomy (sense of self) and how to feel comfortable in their surrounding and become confident learners.
We will also be doing a lot of water play and outdoor play, so please remember to pack a spare change of clothes.
If you have any recycled materials at home that you think we could use or play within our classroom, please bring them in for us!

Toddler Time
Our classroom focus has been on relationships and caring for one another. Toddlers do not always have or can use verbal communication as a means to be understood. So, it is our job to demonstrate positive interactions and support evolving social skills.
Another of our classroom focuses is “All About Us”. We are looking at an exploring our senses and all thing, our body. You will see the product of these conversations and experiences around our classroom.
We also want to bring your attention to the program. This is a wonderful place to see daily events. we get up to so many fun things throughout our day, we want to share them with you!

Explorers are Us!
We are very blessed to have such a diverse and rich tapestry of culture within our service. We want to ensure that we are being culturally inclusive and respectful, which is why we turn to our families for support. We are currently undergoing culture sharing and education. We have started an “All about us” wall in our classroom that is partially reflective of some of our cultural heritage. If you feel that you and your wonderful family can contribute, please see our staff for more information.
Toilet training is full steam ahead! The children are doing wonderfully and should be commended for doing so well. With our reminders the children are even starting to self-regulate and become more aware of their toileting needs. Well done everyone!
Reminder – Please remember to bring in a hat and a water bottle that is labelled with your child’s name on it every day.

Kindergarten News
As we look forward to this year, we would like to outline the direction of the Children’s Learning. As always, we welcome all families input about the activities you would like your children to engage in.

- The focus so far has been on the Children getting to know all their friends and knowing about themselves. This is crucial for social skills, friendship building and knowing themselves as learners. This will be a continuing undercurrent all year long.
- From now, Literacy and Numeracy will be encouraged through scaffolding child-initiated activities and Focused Teacher Sessions. These sessions will be short to begin with. Group lessons, such as reading and singing, will be for the whole class to participate in. These group lessons will be one time a day, then 2 times a day when the children are ready.
- Focused teacher sessions will be small group or individual. These will be based on children’s needs, Teacher observations and current group time focus. These sessions may be anything from phonics and math problems to pencil grip and fine motor muscle development.
- In June/July, a mid-year report will be going home to families. This will be based on the Outcomes from the Queensland Kindergarten Guideline.
We look forward to continuing to work with all of the families and your beautiful children.
