February
For the month of February, the children settled well into their new rooms with their new Educators, having a sense of belonging as they knew where their new lockers were & also where to place their other belongings.
The children also engaged in a lot of sensory play – paint, dry sand, shaving foam, jelly, chia seeds mixed with water, ice cubes, coloured water, magic sand, wet sand & cotton wool. The children used their feet, hands & even their mouths to investigate all the sensory items.
On the 14th the children celebrated St Valentine’s Day by wearing red & also engaging in activities where they used anything red.
On the 21st the children assisted their Educators in cooking pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, the children enjoyed watching the bubbles form in the mixture, which meant they were ready to be flipped. The children loved them so much that some of them hid them in Home Corner for later. 🙂
March
For the Month of March, the children have been learning about spatial awareness, using their whole bodies to climb the foam blocks, forts, balance beams & obstacle course. The children also did a lot of jumping on the small trampoline.
The kindergarten children learned about recycling as the 5th of March was ‘Clean Up Australia Day,’ they were shown the recycling bins we have in the foyer & what items need to go in each bin, they were also going to tell their parents about the bins.
The children will celebrate Harmony Week during the week (Monday to Sunday) which includes 21 March, which is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Since 1999, more than 80,000 Harmony Week events have been held in childcare centres, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia. The children will be encouraged to wear Orange to support this day.
