Hello to our wonderful Cannon Hill Early Learning Centre families!
From the Office
Welcome to 2021 everyone! The year is already in full swing and we have met and welcomed so many new families and children. We hope you have all settled well into our very special Cannon Hill Family. Please remember that if you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to ask our friendly staff or send through and email to Kelly in the office. we are always here to help.
Just a friendly reminder that Kelly’s hours in the centre are Monday-8am-5pm, Tuesday-8am-5pm, Wednesday-8am-12pm, Thursday-8am-5pm and Friday 8am-5pm. There will be times when Kelly needs to leave for meetings and appointments however, if you are in need of assistance outside of these hours please see Miss Sarah who is the center 2IC or any of our lead educators for help. If the office is unattended there will be a sign displayed directing you to where you can ask questions.
Thank you to those of you who attended our Parent Information evening. Notes from the general meeting have been posted on our EDUCA platform. At this meeting we did outline the need for following policy and procedures within the centre. This included signing your children in and out, keeping ill children at home, rest periods and respectful interactions, along with some background information about our centre.
What a Month!
Our children are all investigating and learning about their new rooms for 2021. There has been a buzz of activity throughout the centre and our educators are focusing on the comfort and well being of the children as they adjust to their new environments. There is a lot to learn and remember and some children settle in quicker than others. Please do not be alarmed if your child is taking a little longer to settle in. This is very normal and common with a change of environment and teacher. Please remember that if you need to organise a time to speak with your children’s lead educators please leave them a note in their communication books so they can contact you and organise a meeting.
Another big focus in most of our rooms is educating children on caring for their belongings. This involves teaching the children to put their things away and in the right place- such as drink bottles on the drink trolleys, bringing hats and shoes inside from outdoors and putting them in pockets or lockers, putting socks in shoes, placing dirty bowls and cutlery into the wash up containers etc. Children are very capable of learning the basics of self help at a very early age. We encourage families to practice this at home as well. this will greatly reduce the number of lost socks, shoes and hats and allow the children to strengthen their sense of self.
Food Safe Plan
As you all know we have recently introduced a new menu from KGF foods. This has been very successful and the children are enjoying the array of meals and snacks coming through each day.
We have recently updated our Food Safe Plan to incorporate a log of foods coming into the centre. This means that any foods bought into the centre by families will need to be recorded on the log. We require a full list of ingredients for any food items bought in. This includes cakes, cupcakes and party foods as well. Therefore we will need to know in advance if you are sending any food in for your child’s birthday or other special occasions.

Friendly Reminders
Children’s belongings: Please name all of your children’s belongings This way they are easily located and returned to the correct child.
Sick children: As discussed at the parent information night, staff will be sending ill children home and checking upon arrival how they are. We simply cannot have children who are sick attending the centre. this creates a domino effect which in turn passes illness onto other children and staff.
Do not bring your child to care if your child :
- has a fever
- has been given Panadol in the morning before coming into the centre
- is lethargic, has a runny nose and red eyes or signs of influenza
- has a cough
- has been vomiting in the last 24 hours
- has had diaohrrea in the last 24 hours
- has sticky eyes
- has any rash or sign of infectious disease.
